Life in an AQUARIUM Collection
Here, I layer oil pastels over scratchboard. Combining these mediums allows me to apply the meticulous detail possible through scratchboard with the vivid, yet velvety, pop of oil pastels. The idea to work with fish as a symbol of the paradox that I and others experience—of being one of many, yet also free, unique and individual—had gestated for years. Its fruition corresponded with my move from Florida to Portland. I also explore the combination of aquatic and terrestrial life within an anti-gravity, surreal landscape, relating to my own charting of new territory both literally and as an artist.
